When I walk into the room, several women are selecting yarns, untangling skeins. More wander in, some in walkers. There is a grace hanging about the room. And now  The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has a new program called Meet Me: Making Art Accessible to People with Dementia. This is a resource that was recently published by the Department of Education and contains interviews with experts, information from an evidence-based research study, guides and more…all related to art, aging, and Alzheimer’s. Art Therapy Helps Alzheimer’s Patients Improve Memory

There was a recent news story about a Woodland Hills physician, Dr. Arnold Bresky, who calls himself a “preventive gerontologist.” He’s been utilizing art therapy for patients that have Alzheimer’s and dementia.

He claims he has achieved a 70% success rate with in improving his patient’s memories. Continue reading »
