I have a strong art background form my parents and I have a strong will to go back to school. My concern is that I am 37 and work full time. I do not want to continue what I am doing and have a drive to persue the art field. I am worried about how long the schooling would take me and other then art therapist what other careers in art would be worth this huge life change.I know art teacher is not even considered, due to the lack of need for art teachers. Please contact me, maybe you could give me some insight about what is available out there for me and realistic at my age. Going to school for 10-12 years is not what I want to even consider.
Thank you for your time. I can also be reached at work-tschenk@optimeyes.com
Please send response to both e-mails.
    Thank you.

I am so very interested in becoming a certified art therapist. I have always had a love if art and it has helped me through many hard times in my life. The problem is where do I begin? I would like any information I can get on where to start. Should i begin with psychology? Or should I try to find a school with specific art therapy courses first? Thank u all for any help and advice.

I am looking for a program like this but with Expressive Art Therapy in mind. I love teaching, counseling and absolutely love theater. It is my feeling that theater should be included in art therapy. I think expressive through movement and acting can really help in counseling. I am not very artisticly inclined for regular art therapy. Does anyone know any programs in Michigan especially MFA programs that are based on expressive art therapy?

I am already a certified teacher.

Hello , I am currently a freshman attending an alternative school at Rockford MI and am very interested in going into art therapy. I was looking around the internet but had a bit of trouble finding schools that offered this program that weren’t in Detroit. I would like to attend a more closer to home college if possible. I also was wondering if anyone knew how I should take the classes , like if I should do art and phycology (with all the other classes that go along with it) or try to find a specifically art therapy class ?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and my email is open to anyone.

I am an artist and in my fifties. I have worked as an art teacher and as a librarian for years at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I attended classes . I went to the Corcoran School of Art and demonstrated for Art Education Classes for years. I also worked at the Children’s School in Washington DC. I have shown in many different multimedia art shows. I am interested in the level of credit one would get from experience. I also taught at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Who would be able to help discern some of these questions. I have a family member with autism and I know art therapy that I have taken in the past influenced my work with her advancement.

Adrian College in Adrian, MI, has a well established, well respected undergraduate program in pre-art therapy.
