I’d REALLY like to hear some feedback from people who studied here. What did you honestly think of the program? The location? It’s hard to get a full picture from a website. Please comment if you have experience at this school.
university of tampa is known for their art therapy program. i would love to see some info about them.
i also heard that there was a school in mobile alabama- spring hill christian college a couple frinds of mine said it was a good school
I would also love to hear from anyone taking courses from this college. I’m thinking of going to FSU for my Masters in a year. Any feedback would be much appreciated!!
I would love to hear from anyone who has attended Tampa or FSU for Art Therapy! Thanks!
The U of Tampa does NOT have an art therapy program. They offer a Bachelor in Arts in Art with Pre-Professional Concentration in Art Therapy…you would still need to go to a separate school that offers the Masters degree (only one in FL is FSU).
fsu suspended their art education program which includes art therapy, so apparently florida has NO art therapy schools at this time.
I reside in Florida so, can you recommend an online school?
As far as I know, FSU has not suspended their Art Therapy Program and their graduate degree prgoram is still up and running. I would suggest getting into contact with their director of Art Therapy department Marcia Rosal (terrific person and wonderful faculty member) to get specifics. I graduated from FSU’s Art Therapy Program and could not have been happier with the education that I received and the faculty that I had the pleasure of working with. My class attended many conferences in which we were much more prepared than most other students attending (and some of the professionals). It is a program that focuses on a nice mix of research and application while still offering a good amount of history on which the profession was born. I would recommend the program to anyone interested in art therapy!
Best of luck in your school searches.
I would like to know the best places to start a course in Art Therapy and are there any online courses, where, when and how might I be able to apply for student grants or some funding and I am a mature student just starting out in this course.
Kate – It seems like FSU suspended their undergraduate art therapy program. According to their website http://arted.fsu.edu/ the graduate program is still running.
I attend the FSU art therapy program!!!! It is great. We have really great professors, and a great mix of theory and practice. FSU has suspended their UNDERGRADUATE art ed program, but they still have their Masters program and ONE OF THE ONLY DOCTORAL programs in the nation. There are great things happening at FSU’s program.
I would love to hear more from current/past students about their experiences in FSU’s art therapy masters program and advantages/disadvantages of it being located in Tallahassee (or Florida in general). I am planning on applying there in there future (once my husband has completed his masters degree) and would like to get a better idea of what the program is like from a student’s perspective. Thanks in advance for whatever info you have to offer.
If attending FSU for a master’s in art therapy, what should I major my bachelor’s in? Pyscology? I’ll be finishing my AA next semester and really need to know. Any help is appriciated!
Molly – go to the FSU website, there is a list of pre-reqs for the program. If anyone is looking for an online program check out St Mary of the Woods. I have not attended but they are the only online program recognized by the Art Therapy Assoc
I am currently attending Wayne State University in the Masters in Art Therapy program, and I am interested in hearing more about the Masters proram at FSU because I am thinking about relocating to Florida next year. I would have to transfer to FSU. Would love to hear more feed back about the program and also what’s it like living in Tallahassee?
I am looking for a professional training in art therapy. any suggestions?
I am looking for an online art therapy school in fl. I currently live on the beach and the commute to tampa would be a lot in gas. If someone knows of an online school I would really appreciate the info!!!!
i need some type of classes for my mother who is starting with a memory disorder, we live in miami she is 66 years old.. thank u my name is NANCY
Ok, My question is this, If FSU suspended their program for undergrads, where do I go? Can I get a BS in Fine Arts and then transfer? Im currently a RN looking to branch out…..
Jocelyn try emailing your questions to someone at FSU, they may be helpful.
I graduated from Florida Southern College with a B.S. want to know which college in art therapy. I was informed I need to get a Masters degree. If, Yes, please advise me which colleges offer that. I live in Astatula, Fl. community close to Tavares or Leesburg. Also are there any classes that are online that I can take toward my master?
Is the Arts in Medicine Certificate Program at UF a possible means of becoming a certified Arts Therapist?
Jocelyn,
I am currently applying to Art Therapy programs and I live in Florida. The school I attend does not have an undergraduate art therapy program, but that is not necessary for admission to a master’s degree program. I am a Fine Arts major with 15 credits of Psychology. You can also be a Psychology major and take art classes. So long as you fulfill the prerequisites for graduate programs in Art Therapy you should qualify. Typically, this means 18 credits studio art, and 12-18 credits psychology including abnormal, developmental, and personality psychology. Some colleges also recommend an art education class and statistics. If you lacking some of these credits you may make them up concurrently with your Master’s degree.
Cristina, I also go to UF. To be a certified Art Therapist, you must have a master’s degree in Art Therapy or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution. The exact requirements can be found on the American Art Therapy Associations website. UF’s certificate program would be a good start on your way, however, make sure it allows you to get the prerequisites you need for admission into graduate school.
Does UCF have a good art therapy program?
