I have never been in any actual art therapy classes can’t seem to find anything close to me. But I paint frequently and find just the actual physical process of creating therapeutic. I have always been affiliated with art but it wasn’t until 6 yrs ago that I found my voice through my creating, alot of people have suggested to quite that voice but I say no way. I want other people with mental illness to feel like they are just as much a part of this World as anyone else.
MY TEACHER STARTED ART THERAPY AND SHE ASK ME TO HELP HER PROMOTE IT AND I HAVE NO IDEAS
CAN ANYBODY HELP ME
i am not a certified art therapist but am very interested in finding out more about the field…
if anyone has any information on how to get involved within the nyc area, it would be much appreciated…
i am looking for places that offer it, any feedback from people who receive it, people who provide it, any events around the area.
i have also found art very therapeutic in my own life and realize the importance for some people to have this outlet..
I am currently working on a bachelor’s in psychology and plan to enroll in the Art Therapy program at Saint Mary’s of the Woods College. The problem is finding a licenses Art Therapist for the practicum that is in southern Missouri. I think with more colleges and universities offering the Art Therapy program the more people become aware of the benefits that Art as a Therapy can provide. (Just my Thoughts)
Hello,
I really like this site! I go to therapy every week, and my therapist is an art therapist. I have added you to my blogroll and really appreciate all the great ideas!
@MyMonster Thanks for the kind words and the blogroll link. It’s much appreciated!
Hi
Just an FYI I will be adding your blog to my links list and am blogging about art, art therapy and mental health.
Thanks!
@Joy, Thanks! Can’t wait to read it!
Greetings,
I have really been enjoying this website. As someone who has been extremely interested in Art Therapy for many years I am finding that it is time for me to return to school and get my degree in Art Therapy. I have a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and have worked as a photo editor/graphic designer. I paint, draw and dabble too much in fine art photography and would like to incorporate all of this into Art Therapy. My problem is that I am very confused about what degree I have to go for. I only have a couple of psychology credits. I am confused as whether I have to complete a degree in Psychology and then Art Therapy. Any help would be greatly appreciated! keep up the great work on this site. Reading what you have posted is almost like therapy for me
Hi Jeannine,I am a retired Art Therapist.I wondered what to do next for years and wasted that time.I think am older than you because it was a brand new field when I finished high school.I am not so sure I followed the right path but it is my path and has worked out pretty well for me.I first became an art major with a minor in Philosophy. Then I studied Theology and then I found a program that had classes in art Therapy in the summer.I worked in a state facility a with dev.disabled adults.Once I started taking classes and meeting other Art Therapist I learned alot. I took about 32 hours of Art Therapy. Some classes were taught by the pioneers. My advisor was Harriet Wadeson. She was the person the organized the Art Therapy summer camp. From that point I got in touch with the art Therapy certification people and found out if I had studied enough,They said yes that I could do a practicum and internship while being supervised.I would recommend that you go to a school that offers Art therapy and maybe take afew more classes in Psych. You will be in the circle before you know itand the sooner the better. There are many paths to becoming registered and i think you will do fine .Go for it.Lorayne,Kankakee ,IL

This site is wonderful- reallyinspirational. As a Reiki master teacher, artist and fully qualified school teacher, I want to train to be an art therapist. Im wanting to know is there anywhere in Dubai that offers a course with an internationally recognised qualification.
@Najat Unfortunately, I’m not aware of any available certifications in Dubai. But if I come across any, I will be sure to let you know!
This site has been helpful! i’m currently debating on whether or not to get my masters in art therapy; I will be graduating with a BFA in a few months. How is the job market for art therapy in NY/tri-state area? I’m concerned that I won’t find a job with an art therapy degree, but I feel it’s something I’d love to do…
@alex Not sure what the market is like in NY right now, especially with the economy still being a little frail. It might be worth monitoring jobs for art therapists in your areas of interest, just to get a sense of demand.
ok, thanks!
Hey Everyone,
I’m a sophomore undergrad majoring in art therapy in upstate New York and I know someone out there has an awesome internship opportunity in that field so if someone can please help me find one that would be great! Thanks!
HI, I am so glad to have stumbled upon this site! I am ready to apply for some classes to become an art therapist. My own art has given me SO much release (I am a painter/printmaker, and graduated with a BFA). I was told (in a not-so-friendly way) last night by someone who works in social services here in Maine that this would be a waste of my time as there is no demand for art therapy. I felt like I was punched in the stomach. This is my dream job, and I am hoping that I can get some feedback in regards to general demand for art therapists.
Thank you SO much.
Hello,

I’m looking for resources and direction to becoming a certified art therapist. I’m still in school, so I have plenty of time to prepare, but I want to look into this profession because I want my career to focus on art, but also bebfit others. I would like to have teenage girls be my focus group, but I’m open to any suggestions as to how I might go about becoming certified

The LYRIC CENTER FOR EXPRESSIVE ARTS is a center for individuals eager to learn how to paint and appreciate art for children and people with special needs who will express themselves through expressive arts and music appreciation. The first of its kind in the Philippines, the center addresses the unique differences and needs of individuals through one-on-one interventions designed to help each individual to achieve a higher level of personal self sufficiency, confidence and success in his/her respective school or community than would otherwise be accomplished in a typical classroom education. Lessons are individually planned and are held in a wholesome and welcoming setting that can be electronically monitored through close circuit camera.
The management and teaching faculty of the Center are promoting and propagating the use of our specialized teaching techniques to trainers/teachers and facilitators designed to benefit the special needs beneficiaries and special education units, youth groups, day care centers, and senior citizens.
